FSI launches new Financial Services Foundation Seminar series

The Financial Services Institute (FSI) has launched a new training seminar that provides an introduction to the Cayman Islands
financial services industry, aimed at individuals interested in advancing their career in this
area.

Taking place on Monday 10 July, 2023, at the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, the Financial Services Foundation I seminar is the first in a two-part series, covering all sectors in the financial industry – from investment funds to trusts, captive insurance and banking – with presentations from a wealth of industry experts.

“This is the perfect opportunity for anyone either new to the financial services industry or any existing professional who wants to increase their knowledge and understanding of the various sectors,” said Paul Byles, founder of the Financial Services Institute. “We have assembled a group of highly experienced practitioners to bring sector specific expertise. The seminar will also cover the key international issues impacting the industry. It is the most comprehensive introduction to Cayman’s financial services that has ever been offered.”

The full day session includes presentations from industry experts including Monique Bhullar, Partner – Walkers on Trusts and Corporate Services and Louise Somers, Head of Tax Reporting Services – Mourant Governance Services on International Tax Cooperation. Timothy Rossiter – Vice-Chair of the Alternative Investment Managers Association (AIMA) Cayman Islands will present on Investment Funds and Mike Scott, Senior Vice President – Aon Insurance Managers (Cayman) Ltd will provide the introduction to Captive Insurance. Ormond Williams, Founder, Managing Director, and Principal Consultant – OAWilliams
Consulting, will provide a comprehensive overview of banking.

In addition to covering the various industry segments, the Financial Services Foundation I seminar will put the Cayman financial industry into international context, examining the role this jurisdiction plays in compliance with global initiatives such as FATCA, CRS and Economic Substance. There will also be an introduction to the domestic regulatory framework and the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, while a panel discussion on the Industry Outlook will frame the material alongside the very latest international developments.

With the breadth of industry information covered by the Financial Services Foundation I seminar at an introductory level, this event offers a uniquely accessible and convenient route to better understanding the various services on offer.

The FSI provides educational and training in-person seminars on a range of topics relevant to the Cayman Islands financial industry, featuring local and international experts. Its recent seminar on the 2023 AML Regulations was well attended, with over 80 people at the event and additional topics will be announced soon.

The Financial Services Foundation I Seminar takes place on 10 July 2023 at the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and further information, including registration details and the full agenda can be seen here.
