Razaak Busari
Head of Onsite Inspections Unit, CIMA
Mr. Razaak Busari was appointed as Head of the Onsite Inspection Unit at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), effective 21 August 2023.
He brings over 20 years of regulatory and supervisory experience in the financial services industry, particularly in areas of licensing/authorisations, conduct and prudential supervision and anti-money laundering (AML). Mr. Busari first joined CIMA in 2015 as Deputy Head of the Insurance Supervision Division. In 2019, he left to take up a post as Head of Authorisations Division with Astana Financial Services Authority, Kazakhstan.
Prior to this, he held various senior leadership roles, first as Senior Associate with the Financial Conduct Authority of the United Kingdom (UK) then as Associate Director at the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority. He also worked at one of the leading banks in the UK and served as a Governor on the Board of Doha College.
Mr. Busari holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hon) degree from the London Metropolitan University, UK, a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and an MBA from the University of Leicester, UK. He is also a Certified AML Specialist with an extensive list of other academic and professional qualifications.
He is also a contributing author of various financial books and publications in Islamic banking.
